The Wood Wide Web

Description

When Dr. Elena Vance discovers that the mycorrhizal networks (the "Wood Wide Web") are storing thousands of years of forest memories, she inadvertently triggers a global event. To protect this biological "hard drive" from a ruthless logging corporation, she interfaces her own nervous system with the fungus.

The stakes escalate when the corporation attempts to hijack the network for digital warfare, forcing Elena to merge with an AI to save the planet. In a final act of sacrifice, she tethers the machine's cold logic to her own human consciousness, sinking into a permanent, subterranean dormancy to act as the forest's eternal, silent guardian.
